Star Citizen project tops $100m in funding and releases Alpha 2.0

Space pilots everywhere, rejoice. Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 is hitting flight decks everywhere, bringing with it a host of new features, technical updates, and a new slice of space to explore. RSI calls this release "the biggest update to Star Citizen yet." The new version introduces first-person combat on space stations, ship decks, or even while engaged in EVA. Spacemen focusing on piloting should welcome the new ships and flight modes, too.  Check out the trailer below.

Star Citizen is already the highest-funded crowdfunding project of all time, and its lead continues to increase. The project raised over $5 million in funding last month, and it's now crossed the $100 million mark—a milestone that Chris Roberts hoped the game would eventually reach. Nearly 1.1 million players have contributed funds toward the game's development.

Although the project's last published stretch goal was set at $65 million, the extra moolah seems to have been put to good use regardless. Star Citizen now counts A-list acting and voice talent among its resources. Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, and Gillian Anderson have all joined Chris Roberts' ever-increasing ranks, among others.
