Audiosurf 2 is worth a look

I was looking for a game to relieve the stress of a long day recently. After looking through my Steam library for a while, I ran across Audiosurf, brushed the dust off, and fired it up.  After sinking a few hours into Audiosurf, I was surprised to learn that Audiosurf 2 had been released a few months ago. Without skipping a beat, I purchased Audiosurf 2, and I was ready to rock and roll again. This game's unique combination of mesmerizing lights paired with the music of my choice keeps bringing me back. I'd say Audiosurf 2 is definitely worth a look if you enjoy music and want to make your listening experience more interactive. Check out the video below for all the details.

[/quote<] A bit old, but have you looked at [url=http://store.steampowered.com/app/62100/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1<]Chime[/url<]? Tetromino game, but the blocks are longer by one square, making them more challenging to fit together, and you can place blocks anywhere they can fit with the mouse. Music is a cool electronica remix which reacts to your block clearing (like Lumines). All proceeds go to charity. Sadly I've heard mixed reviews of the sequel, Chime #.

I have plenty of violent games, lol. I just picked up Warhammer 40k Space Marine from the humble bundle winter sale. Ahhh, the endless hordes of orks asking to be mowed down by a chainsword.

Is TR being compensated for this post? I would like to understand how TR operates and the line TR draws between journalism and advertisements.

I know some of the other product announcements are compensated, but it’s unclear to me which posts are which, but as a reader and someone who potentially refers people here I really feel I should be informed.

    Thanks.

I don’t understand — he gave it a positive review (this post is a video review). Do you complain the same about every review which has a favorable rating?

I think it’s the general tone and word choice.

A firm of any journalistic integrity would have no problem reminding their readers of the policies and procedures relevant to this situation.

Let me put it another way, if a site like tech report isn’t uncomfortably transparent, then I’m a little less likely to fully trust their content.

Are you talking about the written words summarizing the punchline of the video review, or the content of the video review?

Perhaps the problem is that these “unnaturally favorable” words come before the video review? Maybe it’s fixable with a re-ordering, e.g. one sentence explaining that it’s video review, then after the video, the positive summary?

We are and will continue to be independent. We want to present the honest truth about the products we cover. The Worth a Look series is composed of games I enjoy that aren’t in the spotlight. I recommend games in the Worth a Look series, but I will point out weaknesses. We are not paid to make them.

We will clearly disclose when any content that appears on The Tech Report is sponsored (see: many of our build logs, giveaways, etc.). If a piece doesn’t carry any indication otherwise—like this one—it’s 100% ours.

[quote<]I know some of the other product announcements are compensated, [/quote<]Can you give an example of that? I don't think I've seen one in the ten plus years I've been on this site.

        Here is an example:
“Thanks to Corsair, XFX, Kingston, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, Cooler Master, Intel, and AMD for helping to outfit our test rigs with some of the finest hardware available. Thanks to Intel and AMD for providing the processors, as well, of course.”
[url<]https://techreport.com/review/26996/amd-fx-8370e-processor-reviewed/2[/url<] As you can see, whenever anything is provided, it is announced.

Right, but that’s not a “product announcements.” Product announcements, ie things that show up in the News Feed as news, are never compensated so far as I know. I was asking if I was mistaken in that assumption.

I’m not disagreeing with you, I think Freon is way off base. But sometimes they are given a review sample, but didn’t have time to do a review full, but did have time for a quick product announcement, saying “look for a review in the future” or something along the lines, then yes, it would be a product announcement that they will then mention that they were given the product and thank the manufacturer or what not. It’s rare, I’m not going to look through decades of posts.

Kinda disappointing to see all the Herd-Instinct-Gerbils-off-a-Cliff downvotes.

There’s been a spate of ppl accusing TR and ars of writing sponsored content of late, usually groundless.

So not surprised at the downvotes.

This isn’t some AAA title, I’m not sure why people didn’t read this article and immediately think ‘This dude really likes the game, maybe I’ll check it out’ and that the author was just being personable. I guess most did, hence Freon’s downvotes.

The gameplay looks fine, but the eye candy on the sides and background is like eye diabeetus with a side of epilepsy.

LOL! It’s a lot smoother when you’re actually playing so it isn’t as bad, but I get what you’re saying.

That’s a damn-near perfect analogy. After about 30 seconds of full-screen, I got a glazed-over look in my eyes, and drool started to come out the corner of my mouth.

The gameplay looks decent (though not inherently different from the first game), but the side noise is a little too much for me. Also, I’m starting to lose interest in some of the “super-twitch” gameplay in my old age.

Honestly, the placeholder image is as much of a look as I need. My eyes! I must be getting old.

You know, in the 80s, that was state-of-the art computer graphics, [i<]and[/i<] state-of-the-art fashion. I had an entire wardrobe that looked like that.
