The Radeon Technologies Group will hold a Reddit Q&A today

Got burning questions about AMD's Radeon Technologies Group? The division is holding a Reddit Q&A today from 10 AM to 5 PM US Central Time on the r/AMD subreddit. Here's the official description of the event:

The Q&A is open to all topics dealing with anything under the Radeon Technologies Group (the Radeon division of AMD). Some big secrets could be unveiled this Thursday, so bring your best questions! Likely topics of discussion will most likely include Vulkan, FreeSync, GPUOpen, Polaris, Fury X2, VR, DirectX 12, and anything else you're curious about.

We'll be keeping an eye on the thread as it progresses, but big news likely can't break from this event without equally challenging reader questions. If you're a Reddit member with a desire to know more about the Radeon Technologies Group, be sure to head over and pose a few. The moderators do suggest that questions about the upcoming Zen CPUs won't be considered, however, so anybody hoping to learn about those chips will be out of luck.

The thing that was most interesting to me about the Q&A is that when Robert was asked about rolling support for custom fan profiles into the drivers, he said they would do it if they thought there was demand for it

From one guy participating in the AMA:

[quote<]Yeah, so far he's replied to 3 people but nobody in the past 25 minutes or so. In general this AMA seems to have been "hey everyone we're from AMD! AMA about polaris and upcoming products, but really I don't know anything about polaris or upcoming products and would be fired for saying anything about them." I don't know why I expected any real information.[/quote<] Same sentiments here.

Kinda taken aback when Robert Hallock said he didn’t finish university. I’m in no way trying to be derogatory or anything but this is AMD we’re talking, right? A company up against another with half the world’s PhD’s.

He’s technical marketing, so he probably had a non-traditional background.

I believe Mr Wasson only had a business degree, which isn’t terribly useful in a technical world. And yet, he fit into technical marketing just fine.

here’s a question for them…when will they break off from the big rusted old anchor and go back to being ATI Technologies?

Pretty slow AMA so far, zero comments of substance from the mod, except that they can’t answer architecture questions about Polaris… which is most of whats being asked.

Yeah. He keeps saying sorry and he promises to hold another AMA shortly before Polaris’ launch. Well then I’d rather this AMA didn’t happen and he just went straight to THAT future AMA.

The first question that came to my mind when I saw this was: is AMD planning to spin off the Radeon group? It kinda looks like it’s a strong possibility.

    I hope Scott participates.

One of the questions was how they got their jobs at AMD, one of the answers was
“1) I used to be a hardware reviewer at a .com. You make contacts in the industry, and you make friends. ”

      HMMMM.

(I don’t actually think it’s Scott, but funny it went the same way)

The fact that they’re going it alone, rather than just a general AMD AMA, along with the entire rebranding effort with RTG being pushed as its own group so much more, kind of makes me wonder if a spinoff is planned.

The fact that “AMD” has almost been consciously censored from anything to do with the Radeon Technologies Group over the last few months is definitely noticeable.

That’s probably plan B, if Zen doesn’t succeed.

Yeah, I’ve seen the rtg name being used more and more. It can’t be a coincidence.

I’ve been wondering the same thing, actually. There’s been a lot of “RTG” happening.

I see you’re really missing SSK. Even started writing like him now.

He had to go to Cuba on a secret mission for the CIA. It’s just not the same without him.

Why was this downvoted? Both statements are true.
