Signature Edition Type Cover makes Surface Pros soft and fuzzy

If you'd like a little refinement in the keyboard cover for your Surface Pro, check out the newest item in Microsoft's lineup of Surface accessories. The Signature Type Cover is a magnetically-attached folding keyboard cover for the Surface Pro 3 and 4. The difference between the average Type Cover and this special edition is the Signature's lush coating of Italian synthetic covering Alcantara. This material is often used in high-end auto and furniture products, and it's often mistaken for suede.

Fancy fabric coating aside, the Signature Edition bears the same layout, scissor switches, accelerometer, and large glass trackpad as the standard Type Cover. Despite its premium position in the Type Cover lineup, the Signature model doesn't come with a fingerprint sensor for use with Windows Hello—that cover is still a separate product. Microsoft has the Signature Type Cover on sale now for $159.99.

I was hoping to get a truly fuzzy cover….perhaps something in 70’s shag carpet or akin to the Martians on Sesame Street? [url<][/url<]

Does it come with googly eyes?

      For Googling, of course.

The issue with the type cover was never how it looked. I find it terrible to type on. I’m glad I only have to for short periods while setting these up for our users. But then again, the entire platform isn’t really meant to be used like a laptop where you might do a reasonable amount of typing. But still, for the cost, I would expect more than a fancy new coating.

      Better than the touch cover.

Honestly the SP3 keyboard wasn’t bad (I could type 100wpm on it…), but the SP4 cover is as good as any ultrabook keyboard and way better than trash like the new Macbook keyboard. I can’t really see any legitimate complaints about the new type covers.

Great! This just continues Microsoft’s well known–and well-deserved–reputation as being soft and fuzzy for consumers.
