[quote<]WCCFtech: AMD RX 480 already available for preorder[/quote<] Always, [i<]always[/i<], preorder AMD stuff. I guarantee it's worth it. Like preordering mobos for Bulldozer.

At least mobos for bulldozer where backwards compatible with AM3 CPU’s.

    Interesting, a possible 8GB RX 470

I don’t get the rather click baity nature of the article about the Rx 470 pricing. Everyone was expecting the low-end Rx 470 to go for $150 and this is just confirming what everyone already expected.

        • anotherengineer

True. I wasn’t really expecting an 8GB version of the 470. Although for a 1080p card 8GB is probably a waste.

I wonder if solid works or inventor would use that much ram?

There’s always an application that can use the RAM if you’ve got it.
It probably wouldn’t be a game at 1080p resolutions, but a professional application or a compute application could sure fill it up.

If it’s like the 480 and it’s 30 to upgrade to 8GB – you’re sitting at just 20 dollars from the 480 itself then. The 4GB 480, but probably better for 95% of uses.

In Canada here so an extra 30% for exchange and an extra 13% for tax and probably an extra whatever markup from e-tailers.

15% in my province, and I call it the F-you Canada Etail markup

          No one loves us 🙁

[quote<]Android Police: Google support site now lists end-of-life dates for Nexus devices[/quote<] This is one area Google Nexus devices could use serious catching up on Apple. Cupertino will support your device with major updates for twice as long. I've a 2012 ipad that's getting ios10 this year - that's undeniably cool. As much as I love my Nexus 5x, if Google treats it like a throw away product in 2017, I'll start thinking of Nexus as a throwaway brand. Androids big problem is not just the speed of updates, its the lifetime - two years is not enough for a mid range device not to mention the high end stuff. I've stopped buying flagship Android phones for exactly that reason.

To be more precise: a Nexus [b<]WILL[/b<] be supported after the EOL date -- just not by Google. 3rd party ROMs will be always be available after the EOL date (and are arguably much better than the stock ROMs anyways). If you're not comfortable with 3rd party ROMs, you're also probably not the kind of customer who'd be interested in a Nexus phone to begin with.

Sometimes I wonder if dragging some devices along is the best. iOS9 on our iPad Mini is still a chugfest, not as bad as 8, but it never got back up to 7 speeds, let alone 6 which it was great on.

What I’d prefer is the old OSs still get security updates, and add a mechanism to go back to them if a new one tanks your performance.

    Not quite first–thanks Ronald!

Now, is it likely that I could get a Kaby Lake/GTX 1080M laptop by December or is 1Q 2017 more realistic?
