NZXT unleashes quieter, more colorful Krakens

All-in-one liquid coolers are designed to take the fuss and guesswork out of cooling CPUs or graphics cards. That doesn't mean that builders don't want choice and customization options, though. NZXT has upgraded its lineup of Kraken liquid-cooling systems with a quieter pump, a new version of its CAM software with pump and fan controls, and all-new "Aer P" fans.

The improvements to the Kraken liquid coolers start inside the pump, which NZXT claims runs more quietly than its predecessor. NZXT also gives Kraken owners more control over the cooling system with an upgrade to its CAM software. Although CAM is primarily a hardware monitoring tool, NZXT has added software controls for the Kraken liquid-cooling systems. Most notably, users will have separate controls for both pump performance and fan speed. The pump also has RGB LED lighting—and lest users think the lights are just for show, NZXT includes some lighting presets that respond to system changes like CPU temperature.

NZXT is also showcasing a new version of its Aer line of fans to go with the updated Krakens. The Aer P fans are high-static-pressure fans with chamfered intakes, redesigned fan blades, and fluid-dynamic bearings. The company claims these fans operate quietly thanks to vibration dampeners on each mounting point. Users can buy these fans separately from the Kraken coolers. The 120mm versions cost $16 each, and the 140mm go for $18.

NZXT sells the Kraken coolers in three varieties. The Kraken X42 comes with a 140-mm radiator equipped with one 140mm Aer P fan and should sell for $130. The bigger Kraken X52 has a 240-mm radiator fitted with two 120-mm fans, and will cost $150. The Kraken X62 is the largest of the bunch, and offers a 280-mm radiator equipped with two 140-mm Aer P fans. That model will set buyers back about $160. The updated Kraken liquid-cooling systems will be available internationally in early November. U.S. shoppers can preorder them at NZXT's website.
