Deals of the week: a little bit of everything

Howdy, gerbils! The Wild West isn't an easy place to make a living, but if you've struck gold and find yourself with a purse full of nuggets, my caravan just arrived from a long trek up to Taiwan and back with the best deals on hardware this side of the Mississippi. Please, indulge yourself, look in these crates over here.

  • All the talk on the Intel camp may be about that Kaby place and its Lake, but that doesn't mean that Skylake's going down without a fight. The mighty Core i7-6700K CPU has been a favorite of enthusiasts everywhere since its release. That CPU originally cost close to $400, but its price has been steadily dropping, down to today's deal of $299.99 at Newegg.
  • Before you pull the trigger on that 6700K above, would you have some interest in the motherboard to go with it? The Asus Z170-Pro motherboard (not to be confused with its lower-end "Pro Gaming" cousin) comes with an Intel I219V Ethernet adapter and an Intel Alpine Ridge USB 3.1 controller with an on-board Thunderbolt header. Its main PCIe slots can take in graphics cards in either SLI or CrossFire configurations, and as an added bonus, the Realtek ALC1150 audio codec offers DTS Connect multi-channel audio encoding. I can vouch for this board's rock-solid build quality and firmware, because it's in box where I'm typing this. Newegg is offering it for $169.99, which is a great deal. There's a $30 rebate card on tap, too.
  • If the board above proves a little too dear for you, we'd like you to take a look at the MSI Z170-A Pro. This ATX motherboard offers an M.2 PCIe x4 slot, CrossFire support, and USB 3.1 Type-A ports. Network connectivity comes by way of a Realtek RTL8111H controller. A Z170-based motherboard from a well-regarded manufacturer usually goes for over $100, but Newegg is offering this model for only $89.99. A mail-in rebate of $15 could bring the price further down.
  • How about a large chunk of storage to go in your system? The HGST 5TB NAS hard drive has a 7200-RPM spindle speed and server-optimized firmware. Newegg is selling this big drive for only $165.99 after promo code ESCFFFM22.
  • Let's double down on HDD storage. The Toshiba P300 3TB desktop drive is a perfectly serviceable unit with a 7200-RPM speed and 64MB of cache. It's on sale for Newegg for a scant $69.99 if you use promo code ESCFFFM26. That works out to just 2.3 cents a gigabyte.
  • Desktop gaming is well and good, but transporting an entire rig may be a little tricky. The Lenovo Y700 gaming laptops are the solution. The first model we have for you has a Core i7-6700HQ CPU, a GeForce GTX graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and a storage combination of a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. This model goes for $879 shipped. The second offer has the same CPU and RAM, but goes with a GeForce GTX 950M, a 256GB SSD, and a 1-TB hard drive. This option is a bit more affordable at $769.
  • Last but not least, we have an, ahem, cool deal for you. Newegg is running an up-to-30% sale on Cryorig gear, and there are some juicy deals to be had. We'd like to highlight the gorgeous R1 tower heatsink for $69.99, the A80 280-mm CLC for $105, and the C1 top-flowing 140-mm cooler for $62.

That's all for today, partners. If you spotted another caravan with good deals, please point your fellow citizens to it in the comments section below.
