Greetings and good afternoon, gerbils. We're gathered here for today's edition of TR's 12 days of giveaways. Yes, yes, we know you're cheering loudly, begging for the TR Santa to show up. Let's use our long-range camera to take a peek. That's odd, there's no sign of Santa, and we see but a single reindeer. Judging by the nose, that's surely Rudolph, but he looks… grumpy? He's walking on his hind legs, has a cigarette in his mouth and he's apparently gone four days without shaving. His bloodshot eyes look none too friendly, either.
He's closer now, and looks like he's carrying… nothing? This is getting weirder by the second, folks. He's probably a hundred yards away, and he's starting to spin. He's throwing something at us, like an olympic shot putter. The object's flying over, and he's arcing one of his front legs in a strange motion quite reminiscent of flipping—oh dear, the small object's landed, and it's quite small. Let's see what this is all about. It's a small box, quite a nice one—it's a Toshiba OCZ VX500 512GB SSD.
The Toshiba OCZ VX500 (a $168 value) is one of OCZ's finest SATA drives, packed with Toshiba MLC NAND flash. Back when TR reviewed this SSD we thought it an excellent overall performer and certainly worthy of being slotted into any system. The drive should be capable of up to 550MB/s in sequential reads and hitting 515MB/s in sequential writes. Its endurance rating is quite high, too. Toshiba says this puppy is good for 592TB of writes, a number that ought to last until Earth freezes over again. On top of all that, the drive is covered by a 5-year warranty program, and comes with a copy of the Acronis True Image cloning software.
Dear me, all that noise, we have a loud crowd today. You're all begging to know who's the lucky winner, we know. Today's prize will be handed out by random draw, but first we need our usual countdown. Let's count down from the number of Linux distros, shall we? Great, all done. And today's winner is… Luis Ramirez, congratulations! The gods of randomness smiled in your favor today. Luis Ramirez, our biz guy will be reaching out to you soon. Meanwhile, Krogoth is unimpressed and wondering why he bothered entering.
Let's all have a big cheer for the folks at Toshiba OCZ. The company was most gracious in offering up this prize for our gerbils. Be sure to follow the company on Twitter and hit the Like button on its Facebook page.
Last but not least, here's a reminder to sign up for the remaining random draws in TR's 12 days of giveaways. There are still plenty of prizes up for grabs, folks. Santa will be taking the weekend off like many of us, but we expect him to be back on the job Monday. While we wait for the 4th prize, he suggested we read up on… mechanical keyboards?
