Colorful’s latest GTX 1070 lives up to its name

Colorful isn't a company known for having a design department that follows Dieter Rams' school of thought. But perhaps the graphics card maker is onto something with its crazy designs, and it's just added another one to its arsenal: the "iGameGTX1070 X-TOP-8G Advanced Limited" graphics card. If you'll pardon us, we'll refer to it as iGame, for short.

The most striking feature in this new card is the design of its cooler. Not content with something as prosaic as using three fans of the same size, Colorful opted to use two 90-mm spiners on the outer ends of the card, and a smaller one in the middle dubbed an iRing. The central fan is lit up from underneath by a ring of RGB LEDs, making it look like a futuristic space engine of some sort. The ligthing appears to extend to the card's iGame logo on the side, too.

Colorful didn't design the card just for looks, though. The iGame's GPU is clocked at a healthy base speed of 1657 MHz and a turbo setting of 1860 MHz. You'll need two eight-pin PCIe power adaptors to feed the card's 8+2 power phase setup. The output section is the standard GTX 1070 selection of three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, an HDMI 2.0b port, and a DVI output. Thanks to TechPowerUp for the heads-up.

The day Apple decides to use ‘iGame’ Colorful is bound to receive a nice letter in the mail.

Why put the smaller fan in the middle where all the heat is generated? Also, 3 fans is pointless and just adds noise to achieve the same cooling at 2 larger fans.

The fan had to be smaller to make room for the LED lighting.

I won’t excuse you…I want to hear the full name…every time..in its full ridiculousness.

    Thanks

You think that’s a mouthful? Here is the full name of my last GPU:

      HIS X1950XT IceQ3 Turbo Dual DL-DVI VIVO 256MB GDDR3 PCIe

Most of that is just abreviations as well. And those aren’t just specs at the end but officially part of the model name from HIS website as I think there was an AGP version as well.

I’m waiting until you can individually light CUs to produce epic rainbow patterns.

If only RGB LEDs has been around in the days of [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connection_Machine#Visual_design<]Thinking Machines[/url<] they might still be around today 🙁
