In the lab: EVGA’s GeForce GTX 1070 SC2 graphics card

EVGA recently introduced its iCX cooler technology aboard a raft of GeForces. iCX graphics cards have a whopping nine temperature sensors scattered across their PCBs, RGB LED status indicators for at-a-glance health checks, and asynchronous fans that can rotate at different speeds depending on the temperatures of the components underneath each one. As a cooling nerd, I've been itching to try this tech out. EVGA has obliged me with this handsome GeForce GTX 1070 SC2 card. Behold:

The GTX 1070 SC2 offers 1594 MHz base and 1784 MHz boost clocks out of the box, white LED lighting, and more. Stay tuned for our full review as we test and dissect EVGA's new cooler tech. If you'd like to try iCX out for yourself, the GTX 1070 SC2 is already on sale at Newegg for $449.99.

$450 is a massive premium for a GTX 1070. I picked up an EVGA unit with identical clocks for $380 months ago, and there are no noise or cooling issues that require exotic remediation.

They saved $70 on BOM by leaving out thermal pads.

I’m still totally happy with my GTX 970 for the games I play at the resolution at which I play them, but damn. I want to just lay out out on a bear skin rug, pour it a glass of wine, and watch the fire all night. I hear [url=https://twitter.com/darkwolfpc/status/830328995933609985<]that's pretty normal[/url<], though.

Watch the fire? Don’t tell me they forgot the thermal pads again!

I thought that’s why AMD gave him the review unit!

Of course I bought the ACX one right before this was released., but I don’t see anything compelling about this version.

Did you see the controversy regarding the ACX versions catching fire?

      Hopefully this resolves the issue.

I’m glad I decided to go MSi for my GTX 1080 after seeing that mess.
