MSI’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X enters the ring

The recent announcement of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is a thing, defying earlier rumors that Nvidia would save the GP102-based GeForce for the top of a refreshed Pascal lineup. Nvidia will have its Founder's Edition cards, of course, but the more interesting cards are always the third-party models. MSI has joined the teasing parade and announced its GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X.

To the surprise of no-one, the Gaming X looks to come equipped with the same Twin Frozr VI cooler as the rest of the company's recent Gaming-series cards. That's not a bad thing, since the Twin Frozr VI is one of the better GPU coolers we've used recently. MSI's announcement came in the form of the teaser image above, so we're a little short on details. We'll probably know more when the 1080 Ti actually launches next week.

MSI might as well change their name to “Dragon Inc”. All their stuff has friggin dragons these days. Just go for it MSI, you know you want to. Might as well sign Daenerys up for the ad campaign while you’re at it.

      A) what’s wrong with dragons?
Two) Who cares what their logo looks like, once installed you’ll never see it. I’d install a sparkelicious unicorn fart if it the rest of the formula was a winner.
eh, 5?) Everybody, literally everybody puts their logo on the stuff they make.

Conclusion: wow, somebody really needs a vacation.

Was going to make a comment about the somewhat gaudy red cooler.
Then saw the Rainbow-Brite edition Zotac card one story down.

And MSI wins the award for the subtle and restrained design!

My MSI RX480 Gaming X is that same cooler. It is actually quite handsome and feels substantial. Also important to note the LEDs are thankfully not intrusive at all. The LEDs default to red to match the cooler, but can be changed to any RGB in the MSI software.

Yup. I just got the RX 480 version of this but had wanted the XFX GTR instead because of the subdued styling. Oh well. My case doesn’t have a window so I will go ahead and keep the $35 savings and live with the red accents.
