The suit claimed that the big MS abused its monopoly power by overcharging for Windows 98. Although filed by a small company, the suit seeks to be a class-action, which could conceivably represent just about anyone in the state New York who purchased Windows 98. The article theorizes that suits like these will make Microsoft more likely to settle, as settling might “lessen the prospect of costly suits.” I know if I potentially had every Windows 98 user in New York gunning for my ass, and that was just the start of my troubles, I’d probably be looking to settle too.
