Intel: Pentium III heading for 1000MHz

Accoring to a story at PCWorld, Intel plans to make it to the magical 1GHz mark—air cooled—with their Pentium III chips, and they’re planning to “present a paper at a closely watched technical conference next month to describe the process”. Sounds like Intel may have a few more tweaks up their sleeves for the ol’ P6 core, eh? If they do it, it will be one heck of an accomplishment—from 166MHz (Pentium Pro) to 1000MHz (PIII) with essentially the same CPU core.

Thanks to AnandTech for the link.
