AMD considers upping bus speed for Athlon XPs
DigiTimes is reporting
that AMD is considering extending its 333MHz front side bus all the way down its desktop processor line to the Athlon XP 1700+. Extending the 333MHz front side bus down the line should be relatively easy for AMD, and could encourage sales of newer chipsets supporting the faster bus. AMD would have to keep producing 266MHz front side bus Athlon XPs, since there are plenty of motherboards out there that don't support a 333MHz bus, but there's nothing wrong with having a couple of options, especially considering the withering availability of Duron processors.
