Asus has announced the first retail motherboard based on VIA's new KT600 chipset. The A7V600 will be offered alongside Asus' existing nForce2 lineup, which features an updated A7N8X Deluxe using NVIDIA's latest nForce2 Ultra 400. To its credit, the A7V600's Serial ATA ports hang directly off the VT8237 south bridge, while the A7N8X's Serial ATA support has to ride the PCI bus. Here's a quick rundown of the A7V600's specs:

- Supports Socket A - AMD Athlon/Athlon XP up to 400MHz FSB
- VIA KT600 and VT8237
- 3 x DDR DIMM sockets Max. 3GB unbuffered PC3200/2700/2100/1600 non-ECC SDRAM
- 10/100 LAN
- 6-ch Audio with S/PDIF out interface
- 1 x AGP 8X
- 2 x UltraDMA/133/100/66
- 8 x USB 2.0 ports
- 2 x Serial ATA ports with RAID 0,1 functions

The A7V600 will be mass produced early this month, so expect boards to hit retail soon.
