Open Source hardware!

EE Times has a very interesting story about a new, 32-bit processor core design whose spec is being released freely on the 'net by a group called OpenCores. The CPU runs its own instruction set, but the team is working on other ISAs, including one from MIPS. Although the "source" is open for this thing, I think "compiling" it will be a real pain. Any bets on how long until we see a Linux port?
