Now that's a display

On Wednesday, IBM Corp. announced its new display, QX20, a high-resolution, 20.8-inch LCD flat display. It sports resolutions of up to 2,048 by 1,536, or 123 pixels per inch. This is achieved by the display's modest nine million transistors. By contrast, current displays have around 88 pixels per inch, or 55 pixels per inch in HDTV displays. This ZDNet article gives a suggested retail price of between $5,000 and $7,000 for the goods. IBM predicts it will ship Q1 1999. I don't know about you, but I've definitely got to get me a couple of these when the price drops ...a lot!
