Intel turns up volume for integrated audio

— 4:00 AM on January 19, 2004

Intel has announced a new audio technology that may eventually replace AC'97. Intel High Definition Audio, otherwise known as "Azalia," supports 32-bit audio at sampling rates up to 192kHz across 7.1 output channels. The technology will debut in Intel's upcoming Grantsdale chipset, and Intel will also make make Azalia available under a royalty-free license later in the year. Thanks to Slashdot for the tip.
