Intel can't meet Prescott demand

Intel's Prescott Pentium 4 processors are reportedly in such short supply that Dell and HP are having a hard time getting their hands on enough chips to fill demand. In fact, Dell is now offering Northwood Pentium 4s instead of new Prescott chips. Given Northwood's superior clock-for-clock performance, tight Prescott supplies aren't necessarily a bad thing for consumers. However, if Intel is having a rough time getting its 0.09-micron fabrication process on track, the company could be in for a long, hot summer.
