Ray tracing's viability for games discussed
One of our forum dwellers pointed out a discussion
over at GameStar.de between NVIDIA Chief Scientist David Kirk and computer graphics professor Philipp Slusallek. The discussion explores ray tracing's benefits and shortcomings when compared with rasterization, whether ray tracing can be accelerated by today's GPUs, and whether the rendering technique is viable for PC games. Kirk and Slusallek both get a little snippy with each other, which makes for an entertaining read.
