AMD to bring dual cores to desktop in 2005

— 12:03 PM on July 16, 2004

The Inquirer is reporting that AMD will bring a dual-core Athlon 64 to the desktop in the second half of next year. Code-named "Toledo", the dual-core chip will apparently replace the Athlon 64 FX and arrive in a 939-pin package. The chip will be built using 90-nm silicon-on-insulator fab technology, but there's no word on whether it will be compatible with existing 939-pin motherboards.
