Dual-core Itanium, Opteron to have dual caches

— 12:30 PM on August 26, 2004

C|Net is reporting that dual-core Opteron and Itanium processors will sport dual on-board caches. The dual-cache approach differs from IBM's dual-core POWER4, which uses more complex shared L2 cache. There's no word yet on what kind of cache configuration we can expect from dual-core chips based on Intel's Pentium M architecture.
