Intel planning Pentium 4 5xx to 6xx migration
to migrate from its existing Pentium 4 5xx series to the new 6xx series by the third quarter of this year. Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers apparently aren't so keen on the idea, citing the 6xx's series' price premium over existing 5xx series chips. The current price gap between Pentium 4 6xx and 5xx chips with equivalent clock speeds ranges from between $50 and $100 online. Of course, the 6xx series' price premium affords buyers EM64T support, an additional 1MB of L2 cache, and enhanced power management. New features and functionality don't come cheap, at least not yet.
