VIA developing 479-pin Pentium M alternative?

Rumors are circulating that VIA is planning to launch a processor that would be compatible with Intel's 479-pin Pentium M socket. The chip, which would presumably be based on the company's upcoming 90-nano "Esther" processor core, could be an interesting option for mobile and low-noise platforms. Tier one motherboard manufacturers will reportedly support the chip, although it's unclear whether it would work with Intel's existing Pentium M chipsets.
