Retailers sell more notebooks than desktops

— 3:14 AM on June 6, 2005

I noticed over at Slashdot that notebooks have finally outsold desktops in US retail stores. Laptops garnered 53% of the retail PC market in May, no doubt helped by the fact that notebook prices have dropped 17% over the past year. Unfortunately, there's no word on what percentage of notebooks sold are reasonably portable, and how many are desktop replacements weighing more than 10lbs.
