AMD's four-way server market share surges
According to IDC, AMD captured
27.8% of the 4P (quad-processor) server market in the first quarter of 2005, more than doubling its share over two quarters. The news was unveiled by AMD Executive Vice President Henri Richard, who didn't touch on single- or dual-processor server market share, suggesting that AMD isn't doing quite as well in those markets. AMD's latest dual-core Opterons could be a big help there, especially since Intel has yet to announce a dual-core Xeon.
