Cheaper Athlon 64 X2 on the way

— 10:14 AM on July 6, 2005

AMD will reportedly cut Sempron prices in August, and launch a more affordable dual-core chip priced at only $345. No details are available on the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ other than its price, although at this year's Computex show, AMD strongly implied that a 2.0GHz dual-core chip was on the way. At $345, the X2 3800+ will be considerably cheaper than the $537 4200+. However, Intel will remain the low-cost dual-core leader with its Pentium D 820 selling for as low as $250.
