Intel may accelerate dual-core Xeon launch

According to CEO Paul Otellini, Intel may release dual-core Xeon processors before the end of the year. Dual-core Xeons were originally due in 2006, but Intel appears to have accelerated its launch schedule for the chips. Intel currently lacks a dual-core server and workstation processor, although it has been pushing the Pentium D as a solution for single-socket servers and workstations. AMD, of course, launched its dual-core Opteron processor back in April.
