Serial ATA 2.5 spec announced

— 1:41 AM on August 25, 2005

The Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) has announced revision 2.5 of the Serial ATA spec. The revised spec consolidates 300MB/sec transfer rates, Native Command Queuing, staggered spin-up, hot plugging, port multipliers, and external SATA into a single standard that will hopefully eliminate some of the confusion surrounding feature support with SATA devices. Unfortunately, though, the 2.5 spec won't be made public until November. For now, it's only available to SATA-IO members.
