Mid-range GeForce 6800 GS on the way?

— 2:32 AM on October 27, 2005

Reports suggest that NVIDIA will introduce a GeForce 6800 "GS" to compete with ATI's Radeon X800 GT and the recently unveiled Radeon X1600 XT. The 6800 GS will apparently have 12 pixel pipes, a 256-bit memory bus, and 425MHz core and 1GHz memory clocks. It's unknown when NVIDIA would launch the 6800 GS, but Radeon X1600 XTs aren't expected on store shelves until the end of November at the earliest. Radeon X800 GTs are available now from a handful of ATI partners, although there doesn't appear to be a consensus on core or memory clock speeds.
