AMD reports desktop CPU shortage
According to EETimes,
AMD has notified certain partners
that several of its desktop processors are currently in high demand and will be difficult to purchase. Affected models are the Athlon 64 3500+, 3800+, Athlon 64 X2 3800+, and the Semprons 2600+ and 2800+. AMD has acknowledged the shortage but is claiming it's being caused by unprecedented demand rather than by any manufacturing issue. This corresponds to what we've heard from other sources; when HP's online store sold out of certain AMD models last week the company cited higher-than-expected sales, rather than outright supply problems, as the reason for the shortage.
