Dynamic in-game ads coming to next-gen consoles

According to this interesting report on eMarketer, Midway Games and advertising company Double Fusion have agreed to bring in-game ads to next-generation consoles, including the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's recently-released Xbox 360. In-game ads have existed for some time, of course, but recent research shows an increase in their popularity; revenues rose from $10 million in 2003 to $71.9 million last year, and analysts are predicting an increase to $562.5 million by the end of the decade. That's more than 5,000% growth over a period of just seven years, which is certainly impressive from an advertising perspective. Unfortunately, that kind of growth also suggests that we'll be seeing a lot more in-game product placement and advertising over the next few years.
