ABC to offer TV shows online for free
ABC has announced that it will experiment with offering
TV shows on its website from May until July. The endeavor
will make episodes of Lost, Desperate Housewives, Alias, and Commander in Chief available online the day after they're aired. Those shows will be free, too, although they will
include commercials that viewers will apparently be unable to skip.
Apple's iTunes currently offers shows like Lost without ads for $1.99 a
pop, so this experimental foray into free, ad-supported downloads could be
interesting—especially considering ABC is owned by Disney, whose
board of directors includes Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
