Willy to get DDR action
Dr. John from KickAss Gear sent word of this story at EBN about Via vowing to introduce a chipset for the Pentium IV that supports DDR SDRAM. Via seems ready to do it, regardless of whether or not Intel is willing to license the bus spec for the PIV/Willamette to them:
However, Chang said that, with or without a license, Via was preparing to have its own Willamette chipset. Reminded that Via was brought to court by Intel for unveiling an unlicensed 133-MHz frontside-bus chipset for Intel processors, Chang's response was, "The future has a way of repeating itself."
I haven't the foggiest what he means about the future repeating itself, but it's fun to think about.
