Real World Technologies takes an early look at the benefits of DDR SDRAM with some benchmarks. PC2100, PC1600, and PC133 memories are compared across different platforms. DDR performance has not yet reached revolutionary levels but the writer makes it clear that it is still early so performance should continue to improve.
Apple bashing in disguise? Tech Extreme has an article entitled proper benchmarking where a Pentium III 800Mhz is compared to dual G4s at 500MHz running Quake III: Arena. They conclude by stating that benchmark settings and methodologies should be properly disclosed.
For those completely new to benchmarks, Ace’s Hardware did a nice primer a ways back called benchmarking your gaming machine. The game benchmarks are dated but the guide itself has managed to age like fine wine.
