Noticed over at VoodooExtreme that id god John Carmack has reassured the Linux community that they will be supported in id’s upcoming project. There had been some doubt whether or not Linux would be supported in the wake of the commercial failure of the Linux retail package for Quake 3 Arena, but rest assured Carmack isn’t giving up on the Penguin. Carmack goes on to say that the initial release will likely only support NVIDIA’s OpenGL driver, but that he plans on doing some driver development work to bring others up to speed.
