Finally scraped together some time to listen last night. Just wanted to say…

GREAT work, as usual, Jordan. Thanks!

    Great job Jordan!

*I never found the background noise to be an issue at all. I found it to be very low and even added a greater sense of actually being there.

Yeah… but NPR had better audio. Jordan, I can tell you spend a lot of time mastering the audio, but there was still unacceptable amounts of background noise. I’ve heard segments by other (NPR or APM) radio-journalism covering popular events like CES or such, but I was clearly able to hear the interviewer and interviewee in their exchange. Also, there were inexplicable “fade-outs” during the interviews, was this because the missing portion was too boring or lengthy?

The best section imo, was the iWallet section. It was reasonably easy to understand. Informative, and effectively demonstrated. And I wanted one REALLY bad… until I heard the sticker price. (jay-zus!)

The fade out/fade in is the radio documentary equivalent of “…” Used in writing to cut out superfluous information and cut down on content.

Sure. Then why didn’t you just use that style? Too awkward to pull off with the background noise?

Based upon the description and your reactions at CES I would buy the Razer’s new gaming/pointing/controller device sight-unseen. My primary computer setup has involved a sofa and 120″ screen for almost two years and the product I just heard being described is exactly what I want. Even better is that it is not Logitech so I don’t have to deal with the worst drivers in the world.

Not really that expensive for what you are getting. You do need a darkish room for best results. I also recommend a grey/high contrast screen for dark blacks. For me, I wanted to put all my eggs in one basket. TV, games, PC, movies… So just one screen. One sound system. One comfortable seating area that the family tends to congregate in. The joys of playing FPS games on the big screen with the audio up (and the wife/kids out of the house) have made it worth every penny.

It was really interesting to hear the behind the scenes talk with the companies like Zotac, Antec and others with the TR guys and I enjoyed hearing the reactions the TR crew had right after (and during) some of the meetings/press events. Particularly interesting were the thoughts on the Tegra 2 and Razer 6-degree of freedom controller.

I think this format was really well suited to CES and turned out even better than the Beijing episode which was also quite good.

Did anyone else notice the HP “Special Report” about their slate used the jingle from some of the more recent Tech Report podcasts?
