It varies by game, but yeah in some cases the smoothness of a 144hz monitor can trump a nice Sony display with impulse mode etc.

But it’s a difficult tradeoff: Do I want a large 40-50″ all-purpose display or a higher quality display almost half the size for the home theater room? The usage case for that setup makes this a tough sell.

This would be a non-issue once 32″+ monitors become affordable though, I’d rather have one of those and sacrifice a little bit of the size in return, it should still work fine for movies and such.

On the other hand I’m also curious to try an OLED display once the price drops closer to mainstream levels, ~$2500-3000 is too rich for my blood right now.

You should try 120 – 144 Hz monitors. You won’t be able to go back to your TV, if you do.

@5:15 – Hey Scott, I bet you’d enjoy a livingroom PC setup, maybe give it a try sometime if you can, it’s pretty cool. Sony’s 850 line might be a good display for this purpose.

I have a setup where I have a ~48″ HDTV about six feet away, and keyboard/mouse/gamepads with long cords because I dislike wireless delay issues.

It’s great imho for gaming and youtube/movies. It’s also fine for web surfing, the text at 1080p is not difficult to read at all.

The only thing that would make me switch to a monitor for this room is if it was at least 32″ and had FreeSync capability, otherwise it’s frankly difficult for me to move back to gaming on a cramped desk at this point.

    Just my 2 cents.

Love the video version…Scott looks much different then I thought. Scott looks like A older thinner version of Josh Walrath…Josh Walrath looks like Dick Cheney…Scott u don’t look like Dick……Jordan requested a comment…so there.
